Privacy

OpenVPN, PPTP (point-to-point tunneling protocol) and L2TP (layer 2 tunnelling protocol) - all three major protocols are supported in the Pro version of Vypr, but only Chameleon is not available for basic users. We mentioned this before, but we highly suggest using OpenVPN protocol due to its speed and security. A new feature called VyprVPN Cloud has been launched and lets the VPN users to create an easy-to-use, highly secure VPN server deployment solution. This allows for users to add another layer of security when accessing public or private cloud servers.

Vypr also allows using their internal DNS service, which supposedly gives another layer of security for those who are located in countries where internet connection is monitored/blocked at the country level. Vypr describes this Chameleon technology like this: "it scrambles OpenVPN packet metadata so it cannot be recognized and blocked".

Golden Frog (the company behind VyprVPN) claims that they are storing log data for 30 days. That might be an issue for some users, but at least the company is very specific about what data they store and for how long. The fact that VyprVPN does not allow torrent traffic is also a limitation which has to be taken into consideration if you consider buying it.

Speed & Performance

The speed differences are notable, both the upload and download speed is reasonable and do not affect the browsing experience.

When you search for a VPN, fast speed is an extremely important factor. You want your streaming services to work well and without annoying buffering and your browsing experience to be smooth. Moreover, it is known that in general, Internet speed drops when using a VPN, so it's important to try and find a VPN that still offers good speed even when using VPN services. We check the speed when connecting from the US to the UK, as it's half across the globe. It is a big distance, so keep in mind that closer locations may provide better speed and latency.

Internet speed without a VPN shows your general Internet Service Provider download and upload speed. On the other hand, it is known that you lose speed when using a VPN service. So be sure to take into consideration if your speed drops too much.

Speed - highlights

  • The speed drops significantly

Speed - Conclusions

The speed drop does not affect you if you're browsing, but might affect other activities.

Apps

All major platforms and mobile apps are covered by Vypr. For platforms such as Linux, which do not have a custom app developed, extensive setup tutorials are provided.

The apps are nicely designed and simple to use. They really looks like a premium product. What we really liked was the "Connect to fastest server" button, which chooses the best server on-the fly based on the ping results. In most of the cases, the best performing VPN server is needed, not the one in some special location, and this Vypr's function perfectly suits such needs.

Apps - highlights

  • Routers, TV's and more are supported
  • Apps are easy to use
  • Linuis not supported

Apps - Conclusions

All major platforms are covered and the applications are stylish as well as easy to use.

Support

While subscribing to VyprVPN services to try it out, we ran into some issues, so we immediately reached out to their live support. The consultant was clearly a professional and managed to solve the issue within a few minutes.

the second support option is Vypr's knowledge base. It contains articles about the basic usage of the services as well as account management. Some VPN providers have more extensive coverage, but Vypr's articles definitely cover all the basic needs. And if you need some more information - email contact support is available as well as a community forum which you can browse through the questions already asked by other customers.

Value for money

Two plans are available and each of them has a monthly or a yearly subscription package. The basic plan costs $9.95 per month or $60 for an annual plan ($5/month), which is less than before. We have to acknowledge that price-wise, Vypr is definitely among the premium priced VPN providers, but they have rethinked their pricing plans and now offer their services for a cheaper price. The premium plan is $12.95 per month or $80 per year ($6.67/month) and offers 5 simultaneous connections. Moreover, it can be said that the Premium plan is more focused on users and markets where the governments are actively blocking VPN, for example China. For the same reason, Chameleon and VyprVPN Cloud are both included only in the Premium pricing plan. There is also a 3-day trial available, but this might be too short for some users to really get the feel of VyprVPN.

Credit card is needed to subscribe for the services and the lack of BitCoin payment option might be inconvenient to some customers. Cryptocurrencies are not supported as well.

Price - highlights

  • Numerous payment options to choose from
  • Only two pricing plans available

Price - Conclusions

The Premium plan is a bit more expensive, but offers exclusive features.
